Womens Basketball Defeats Sheridan College

Jansone scores 20 to help avenge earlier loss

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College teams continue their home winning streak as both the men's and women's squads defeated Sheridan College in Region IX North sub-region matchups.  The women defeated the Lady Generals 64-51 to improve to 18-6 overall and 4-2 in the sub region. 

In the women's game tonight, MCC led nearly from start to finish after trailing early 2-0, the Lady Pioneers took the lead with 17:53 on the clock in the first half and never trailed again.  Miles pushed the lead out to as many as 11 points (25-14) before allowing Sheridan to stay in the contest only taking a three-point lead into the intermission. 

After the break, the Lady Pioneers went on a 12-1 run to open the second half and stretch the lead out to 14 points with 17 minutes remaining in the contest.  The lead even got pushed out to as many as 20 points as Miles Community College led 56-36 with less than ten minutes on the clock.  The lead stayed in double digits as MCC claimed the 64-51 victory. 

Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) scored a game high 20 points in the win, she also pulled down seven rebounds.  The only other player in double figures for MCC was Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) as she finished the game 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting. 

Echo Thurston (Highwood) came off the bench to pull down nine rebounds helping MCC outrebound Sheridan 44-25.  The Lady Pioneers dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 16 offensive boards that led to 16 second-chance points. 

Freshman point guard Christen Lopez (West Jordan, Utah) finished the night with seven assists, seven rebounds, six points, and four steals in 24 minutes of action. 

MCC will continue the home stand with their fifth game in eight nights on Friday as they host Northwest College in another Region IX North Sub-region contest.  The women's game is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
