MCC Women Blows Out Williston State College at Home 74-47

Lady Pioneers turnover free in second half

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College basketball teams picked up their third consecutive home sweep over a Mon/Dak Conference opponent.  The women's team improve to 11-0 in the conference and 17-6 overall with a 74-47 victory over the Lady Tetons of Williston State College. 

In the first game of the evening, WSC battled the Lady Pioneers tough in the first 16 minutes as the lead changed hands four times before MCC went on a 10-4 to close out the first half.  Miles Community College held a 30-23 lead at the break despite struggling from the floor, shooting just 30 percent.  The defense held Williston State to 30 percent as well, forcing 14 turnovers in the first half. 

To open the second half, the home team went on a 14-2 run to break the game open and to give the Lady Pioneers a 44-25 lead with 13:55 remaining in the contest.  Freshman guard Bailey Wilson (Columbus) came off the bench to score 14 second half points.  MCC played turnover free basketball in the second half, after committing seven turnovers in the opening period.  On the flip side, the Lady Tetons committed 13 more turnovers which led to 18 points for Miles.

Sophomore Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) also finished the night with 14 points and pulling down six rebounds.  Taylor Henderson (Miles City) and Shaye Murphy (Riverton, Utah) also chipped in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.  Murphy grabbed a game-high seven rebounds in the win. 

MCC's height advantage helped them win the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Lady Tetons 41-32 including a 14-3 advantage on the offensive boards leading to 15 second chance points.  For the game the Lady Pioneers forced 27 turnovers and converted them to 34 points.

Up next for the Miles Community College is Region IX North sub-region opponent Sheridan College Wednesday evening in their fourth of 10 straight home games.  The game against the Generals will be MCC's fourth game in six nights.  The women's game is scheduled for a 5:30 start.
