MCC Women Remains Perfect in Mon/Dak Conference

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College basketball teams picked up another home sweep as both teams came out victorious against North Dakota State College of Science.  The women defeated the Lady Wildcats 70-64 to improve to 16-6 overall and 10-0 in the Mon/Dak Conference.  In the second game of the doubleheader, the men picked up a 71-67 victory over the 17th ranked Wildcats to take over the lead in the Mon/Dak with an 8-2 record and 13-9 overall. 

MCC's women scored the first 11 points of the contest before NDSCS got on the board with 4:30 into the contest and eventually push the lead out to 20-4 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the opening half.  The Pioneers led wire-to-wire and hung on for the victory.  The Lady Wildcats managed to cut the lead down to two points with 1:21 left in the contest before Shaye Murphy (Riverton, Utah) and Taylor Henderson (Miles City) each hit a pair of free throws to close out the contest. 

Henderson's free throws came with two seconds left on the clock as the Pioneers were running out the clock.  She finished the night with eight points.  Christen Lopez (West Jordan, Utah) handed out seven assists in the victory.

Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) scored 16 of her team-high 23 points in the second half to help keep Miles Community College undefeated in the Mon/Dak Conference.  Murphy finished with afternoon with 15 points and Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

MCC's height advantage showed in the rebounding column as the Pioneers held a 38-27 edge on the glass.  Miles Community College outscored Science 18-4 in second chance points.

Up next for MCC is another conference foe comes to town as the Pioneers host Williston State College on Monday night.  The women are scheduled for a 5:30 PM tipoff.
