MCC Women Defeats United Tribes 88-71

Improves to 10-4 overall; 5-0 in Mon/Dak Conference

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College women's basketball team picked up a win against Mon/Dak Conference opponent United Tribes Technical College this afternoon in Bismarck, North Dakota.  In the first game of the afternoon, MCC’s women defeated the Lady T-Birds 88-71 to improve to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the Mon/Dak Conference.   

The MCC women jumped out to an early 12-0 lead over the first five minutes of the contest before United Tribes cracked the scoreboard.  The Pioneers’ aggressiveness on both ends of the court led to the wire-to-wire victory.  On the defensive end, MCC forced 16 first half turnovers, leading to 16 points and also got to the free throw and connected on 10-of-12 attempts. 

The second half saw MCC push the lead to as many 22 points with the help of the three-point shot, hitting 6-of-13 in the second half.  Freshman Taylor Henderson (Miles City) hit all four of her attempts to lead the barrage, the Pioneers finished 11-of-23 in the contest from beyond the arc. 

Sophomore Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) led the team with 19 points, fellow sophomore Micah Kirkpatrick (Terry) and Henderson each pitched in 14 in the win.  Kirkpatrick also pulled down a team-high six rebounds as Jansone and Echo Thurston (Highwood) each grabbed five caroms. 

MCC finished the night forcing 27 turnovers, leading to 33 points in the conference win.  Jansone finished the contest with seven steals. 

MCC will stay in Bismarck tonight to face Bismarck State College Monday evening as they will play their third of eight consecutive road games throughout the month of January.  The game is scheduled for 6:00 PM CST.
