MCC Falls to Pronghorns in Gillette

Jansone leads team with 20 points

(Miles City, MT) – The Miles Community College basketball team dropped their opening game of 2011 and the first of eight straight road games with a loss at Gillette College Tuesday night.  The women had a five-game winning streak snapped with a 64-57 loss to fall to 9-4 overall.

The women struggled from the floor in the first half, shooting just 32 percent from the floor and trailed 34-23 at the intermission.  The second half saw MCC come out and shoot nearly 50 percent from the floor to come back and tie the game before falling Gillette was able to pull out the victory in the end. 

Sophomore Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) led MCC with 20 points in the non-conference matchup.  Fellow sophomores Echo Thurston (Highwood) and Shaye Murphy (Riverton, UT) also finished the game with double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.  Freshman Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) led the team with eight rebounds. 

Up next for the Pioneers will be a trip to Bismarck, North Dakota this weekend to face United Tribes Technical College on Sunday and then Bismarck State College on Monday in Mon/Dak Conference contests.
