Lady Pioneers Defeat UTTC

Jansone leads the way for MCC

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College Lady Pioneers ended the fall semester and 2010 with a 78-50 win over Mon/Dak Conference opponent United Tribes Technical College to pick up their fifth straight win to improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the Mon/Dak Conference. 

The Lady Pioneers opened up the first half with a 34-5 run over the first 13 minutes of the contest to take control of the Lady T-Birds.  MCC shot over 63 percent from the floor in the opening period as they led 44-23 going into the intermission.  Despite cooling down in the second half, MCC still managed to stretch their lead in the second half to pick up the 78-50 victory in Mon/Dak Conference action. 

MCC was led by sophomore Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) with 16 points, seven steals, six rebounds, and five steals.  Three other players finished the night in double figures as freshmen Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) and Taylor Henderson (Miles City) added 12 and 10 respectively, while sophomore Micah Kirkpatrick (Terry) also chipped in 10 points in the win.  All 10 Lady Pioneers scored tonight. 

Miles finished the night shooting 47 percent from the floor while holding UTTC to 33 percent.  Domljanovic, helped MCC outrebound the Lady T-Birds 42-33, pulling down nine rebounds.  MCC's defense forced 23 turnovers, converting them into 34 points. 

Miles Community College will take the rest of the semester off as they begin finals week next and will head into the holidays with a couple of weeks off before returning after the first of the year.  The Lady Pioneers will enter 2011 with eight straight road games as they will spend the whole month of January away from the friendly confines of Kailey Gymnasium.
