Women defeat Dakota College

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College Pioneers defeated Mon/Dak Conference foe Dakota College at Bottineau this afternoon.  The women defeated the Lady Jacks 69-46 and With the win, MCC's women improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the Mon/Dak Conference.

After a slow start for the women's team despite leading from the jump, MCC led by just six points with six minutes remaining in the opening period.  Leading 21-17 with six minutes remaining, MCC ran off on a 15-2 run to close out the half and lead 31-19 at intermission. 

The Pioneers stretched the lead out to as many as 29 in the second half several times before finishing off the Lady Jacks 69-46.  Three different Pioneers scored in double digits for MCC, led by sophomore Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) with 15 points.  Shaye Murphy (Riverton, Utah) pitched in with 12 and Taylor Henderson (Miles City) added 11 in the victory. 

MCC outrebounded Dakota College 48-37 with the help of Echo Thurston (Highwood) and Kassie Barta (Fairfield) each pulling down 10 rebounds apiece.  The Pioneers scored 15 second-chance points off of 18 rebounds, while only allowing DC four points on the offensive boards. 

The difference in the game was from behind the three-point line, MCC hit nine three-pointers while DC only knocked down two, giving the Pioneers a +21.

The Pioneers will be back home this week when they host Little Big Horn College on Thursday and United Tribes Technical College on Friday.
