Miles CC Basketball Defeats Lake Region State College to Advance to Mon/Dak Conference Tournament Finals

In the semifinals of the Mon/Dak Conference Tournament, Miles Community College defeated Lake Region State College in semifinals. The Pioneers defeated the Lady Royals of Lake 76-67.  MCC will face Williston State College today in tournament championship.

The women led wire-to-wire in the first semifinal of the night, when Shaye Murphy (Riverton, Utah) hit a three to give MCC the first lead of the game.  The Pioneers led by as many 13 in the opening period with the help of shooting 63 percent, hitting 15 of 23 field goals, in the opening period. 

The second half was much of the same as Miles hit 16-of-29 from the floor.  For the game, the team shot just under 60 percent from the field and 57 percent from beyond the three-point line.  MCC hit eight threes while holding Lake Region to just five. 

Murphy and Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) each scored 16 points to lead the team in scoring in the win.  Three others also scored in double figures as freshmen Kassie Barta (Fairfield) pitched in 14, Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) and Christen Lopez (West Jordan, Utah) scored 13 and 10 respectively.
