Region IX Announces Women's Basketball Awards -- MCC received Sheila R. Worley Sportsmanship Award

(Miles City, MT) -- The Sheila R. Worley Sportsmanship Award was presented to Miles Community College for the sportsmanship, positive attitude, and class act throughout the whole tournament. The Lady Pioneers defeated Central Wyoming College in the first round and was ousted by Northeastern Junior College, the eventual runner-up, in round two.

A pair of Lady Pioneers were named to the Region IX Women's Basketball All-Tournament Team, sophomores Beata Bak (Poland) and Kristen Brady (Lame Deer) both earned spots. In the two games, Bak averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds. In the 73-67 second round loss to NJC she hit 11 of 12 from the free throw line and pulled down 16 boards. Brady averaged 10 points in the two games. In the first game, she scored 14 points, had four steals, and three rebounds in the 51- 43 victory over Central Wyoming. Bak was also named to the All-Region IX Team as well, in her sophomore campaign she averaged nearly a double-double with 16.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She finished second in rebounding and fourth in scoring in the region. She also finished the year with nine double-doubles, including a 30-point, 20-rebound performance against Bismarck State Conference.

Miles Community College finished the year 22-8 overall and 6-2 in the North sub-region.
