PIONEERS END OTERO SERIES ON A HIGH NOTE

Game 1

(La Junta, CO) The Pioneers pulled ahead early in the game, but couldn’t hold on after a big third inning by the Rattlers. MCC fell to Otero, 3-4.

Mitch Hughson got the loss on the mound for the Pioneers. He pitched six innings, gave up four runs on eight hits, struck out two and walked one.

Will Riley led the Pioneers in hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Game 2

Good pitching was the story in the second game. The game was tied at one until the fifth inning, when the Pioneers took the lead on a single by Kolton Bleggi which scored one run. MCC added another run in the sixth inning to get the victory, 3-1.

Luke Turner was the winning pitcher for the Pioneers. He pitched seven innings, allowed eight hits and one run, while striking out four.

Kolton Bleggi, Jordon Thomson, Mason Baker, and James Martin all had one hit to lead the Pioneers. MCC didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kyhler Thomson made the most plays, with six.

Coach Jeff Brabant commented, "A few bounces didn't go our way in game 1, that's baseball. In game 2, Luke was very good and spread hits around. Our defense was solid. We scrapped runs together and showed our resiliency again. We have a huge series this coming weekend at home. We'll take care of finals and get to play at home.”

The Pioneers will be back on their home field for a series against Western Nebraska Community College starting May 4 at 1:00 pm.
