PIONEERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH RATTLERS

Game 1

(La Junta, CO) The first game of the series was a close one, but strong pitching led the Pioneers to victory over the Rattlers, 3-2.

Parker McRae got the win on the mound for the Pioneers. He pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowed seven hits and two runs, struck out five and walked zero. Mitch Hughson came out of the bullpen in relief to pitch one-third inning. Hughson recorded the last out to earn the save for the Pioneers.

Kolton Bleggi, Carson Hoke, Nate Bloxham, James Martin, and Will Riley all led the team in hits with one a piece.

Game 2

The Pioneers found themselves in an early hole in the second game of the doubleheader. The Rattlers scored six in the first inning and eight runs in the second and never let the Pioneers back in the game. After struggling to get anything going offensively, MCC fell 3-20.

Jonathan Ringer recorded the loss for the Pioneers. He pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowed ten runs on six hits and struck out one.

Kolton Bleggi led the Pioneers in hitting, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Coach Jeff Brabant commented on his team’s performance, “Jeckyl game 1, Hyde game 2. We need Jeckyl to show up twice tomorrow.”

The Pioneers and Rattlers will face off again tomorrow in La Junta, CO for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
