(Miles City, MT) Head women’s basketball coach Nate Vogel announced that Marina Peinado Balaguer is planning to continue her career as a student athlete next season at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA.

Peinado Balaguer is originally from Mataro, Spain. Marina was recruited by coach Vogel and played one year for the Pioneers. During the season, she averaged 7.4 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and shot 36.6% from beyond the 3-point line.

“I feel like MCC has prepared me very well for the next level,” commented Peinado Balaguer. “I feel prepared to play basketball and prepared for life off of the court. I have grown a lot as a person this year and I have learned a lot about our community and giving back through service.”

“Marina’s shooting ability translates to any level,” coach Vogel commented. “Her ability to play either wing spot and even be able to play some point guard if needed makes her valuable for any team. I’m happy Marina’s dream of being able to continue school and basketball in the United States has been realized!”

Peinado Balaguer is looking forward to growing more as a person and as a basketball player while she is in Iowa. “It's going to be very challenging for me but I'm very excited to start a new experience and continue working on my studies and basketball, “commented Marina.

Upper Iowa University is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference within NCAA DII.
