(Billings, MT) The Miles Community College Pioneers opened up their Spring golf season on Monday and Tuesday in Billings, MT at Lake Hills golf course as a part of the Yellowjacket Spring Invitational.

MCC traveled two golfers to the tournament, Chalee Mullin and Riley Shipp. The Pioneers are playing in their only tournament of the season since the Dickinson State Invite was cancelled in early April.

The snowy winter made it hard for the girls to get out and golf on a regular basis, making it difficult for them to be in great form for the season.

The Pioneers competed against Montana State-Billings, University of Jamestown, Montana Tech, and Dickinson State.

MCC was also facing a tough golf course. Lake Hills, a par 72 is a difficult course this early in the season. With a rating of 71.9 and a slope rating of 114, there are no easy holes.

Chalee Mullin shot 102 & 101 and Riley Shipp shot 106 & 102 over the two-day tournament.

The host team MSU-Billings won the tournament with an impressive showing, shooting a combined 637, +61. MSU-Billings’ own Bailee Dexter finished in first place, followed by her teammate Sammy Walter.

Coach Chase Tait commented, “"It was great for the kids to get back on the course again. Monday was beautiful and was our first time on real grass in 6 months. The weather Tuesday took a turn for the worse as it was cold and windy, but I think everyone was just happy to be on a golf course again."
