FOUR RUN INNING NOT ENOUGH, MCC DROPS DOUBLEHEADER

Game 1

(Lamar, CO) MCC couldn’t find there rhythm in the first game of the doubleheader against Lamar and were eventually shut out 0-7.

Mitch Hughson got the loss on the mound for the Pioneers. Hughson pitched five and a third innings, allowed five hits and seven runs. He struck out eight and walked one.

Mason Baker and Kyhler Thomson led the Pioneers in hitting with one apiece.

The final game of the series will begin at 12:30 pm.

Game 2

After a big first inning, the Pioneers let the game slip through their fingers as the Lopes pulled away and eventually got the victory 17-7.

The Pioneers scored four runs in the first inning and another three runs in the fifth inning. MCC struggled defensively, giving up six runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Luke Turner took the loss on the mound. He pitched three and a third innings, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking one.

Will Riley led the Pioneers in hitting, going 2-for-2 at the plate.

Coach Jeff Brabant commented on the loss, “We had as many errors as hits on the day. We weren’t going to beat anybody doing that. I didn’t do a good enough job of preparing our guys. Hopefully Dawson doesn’t cancel on us and we can play again tomorrow. The only way to turn it around is to play. We are quickly running out of season.”

The Pioneers are scheduled to be on the field tomorrow against Dawson at 3:00 pm in Miles City.
