(Sterling, CO) The Miles Community College baseball team dropped a double header to Northeastern Junior College on Monday afternoon. The Plainsmen took game one, 11-1, before winning the second game, 9-4, over the Pioneers (16-12).

Game 1

The Plainsmen took control of the game in the third inning. They added insurance runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. The Pioneers were unable to bring any runs across after the second inning, and ultimately fell, 11-1.

Mitch Hughson recorded the loss for MCC. He pitched three and one-third innings, allowed five runs on six hits and struck out three.

Mason Baker led the Pioneers with one hit on the day.

Game 2

The second game of the doubleheader started off with the Pioneers scoring on a wild pitch in the first. The lead slipped away quickly when the Plainsmen scored two runs in the bottom of the first. The Pioneers kept it close for most of the game, until Northeastern got hot in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored 4 runs. The Pioneers fell, 4-9.

Nate Bloxham led the team in hitting, going 2-for-4 on the day.

Luke Turner took the loss for MCC, pitching five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, and striking out four and walking one.

Coach Jeff Brabant commented after the game, “Hopefully the weather cooperates and we can get some good practice in this week to prepare for next weekend. We need more time outside. It hurts us that the game with DCC on Wednesday is cancelled. We will need to find another way to get quality reps in. Back to work tomorrow."

The Pioneers' game against Dawson has been cancelled for April 11.
