(Miles City, MT) Head coach Jeff Brabant announced that CJ Canfield is planning to continue his career as a student athlete next season at Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD.

Canfield is originally from Philipsburg, MT, but was raised in Rochester, WA. CJ is in his third year at MCC, as he redshirted his first year. Canfield came to MCC as an outfielder, but transitioned into a pitcher last summer. Prior to last summer, CJ had not faced a live batter since 2014. Canfield will continue his career as a side arm slinger at Presentation.

“MCC set me up for a seamless transition to a four year program,” Canfield commented. “The relationships that I have built with my professors, coaches, and peers have helped me better understand what it takes to succeed both in the classroom and on the field at the next level.”

Coach Brabant is extremely proud of his outfielder turned pitcher, “CJ as been here for three years and has struggled with his game as a position player. We decided to try him on the mound and it has revitalized him and his ability to compete for us. Although he has had a lot of adversity, he has worked through it all and persevered into a very special player. His best days are still ahead. He will be a great asset to Presentation College. CJ is a hard worker and a great student. He is an ambassador for our program and I’m pleased he is moving on and getting a great scholarship to boot.”

Canfield is looking forward to a number of things about playing baseball at the next level. Most of all he is excited about the atmosphere of a four-year program. “It should be a seamless move because the class sizes and environment at Presentation College are nearly identical to MCC. Presentation is a great fit for my academic needs, and I could not be more grateful to play the game I love while working towards my future in exercise science.

Presentation is a member of the Northstar Athletic Association (NSAA) within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
