Trinidad, CO – The MCC baseball team split Sunday’s doubleheader with Trinidad State Junior College. The Trojans took both games on Friday and Saturday, but the Pioneers were able to split Sunday’s doubleheader.

Game 1

There was a lot of offense in the first half of the doubleheader. The Pioneers got on the board in the second inning with a single by Carson Hoke that scored a run. MCC continued to hit well, with their biggest inning being the fourth when they scored three runs. James Martin and Nate Bloxham both picked up RBIs in the inning.

The Pioneers had 13 hits in the game. Will Riley, Kyhler Thomson, Carson Hoke, and Kolton Bleggi each had multiple hits. Riley led the Pioneers in hitting, going 3-for-5 at the plate.

Mitch Hughson got the win for MCC. He lasted six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out four. Logan DeCock pitched one inning out of the bullpen in relief.

The Pioneers took the win 10-4.

Game 2

The final game of the series was a close one, coming down to the final inning. In the end, the Trojans proved too much for the Pioneers. MCC lost 8-7 on a walkoff single.

The Pioneers had ten hits on the day. Nate Bloxham and Will Riley both had three hits to lead the Pioneers.

Logan DeCock got the loss on the mound for the Pioneers. He allowed one run on two hits and walked zero. Luke Turner started the game for MCC. Turner lasted six innings, allowed ten hits, seven runs, struck out four and walked one.

Coach Jeff Brabant commented on the day, “We were a lot better today. We played like we are capable of playing and yet still much room to improve upon. We have some time off now, but unfortunately, we come back to unplayable conditions. We’ll take some time off and focus on academics and then probably have to travel to go practice. A lot of our mistakes are being made because we haven’t been outside to work on things.”

The Pioneers are scheduled to be in action again on April 4 in Miles City.
