Game 1

TRINIDAD, CO – The Pioneer Baseball team dropped a doubleheader toTrinidad State Junior College on Friday afternoon. The Trojans took game one, 8-2, before winning the second game, 5-4, over the Pioneers.

The Pioneers had three hits in the first game. Braxton Boyle, Bryce Krattiger, and Will Riley each had one hit for the Pioneers, with Braxton Boyle batting in both of MCC’s runs.

Parker McRae took the loss on the mound for the Pioneers. McRae went five and two thirds innings, allowed eight runs on eight hits and struck out two. Chase Feller came into the game in relief to pitch one-third of an inning.

Game 2

TRINIDAD, CO - The second half of the doubleheader was a close one, with the game tied at four in the bottom of the seventh. The Pioneers couldn’t hang on and the Trojans scored the winning run, giving MCC their third loss of the season, 4-5.

Braxton Boyle started the game hot for the Pioneers, homering on his first pitch and scoring two runs. Bryce Krattiger led MCC in hitting, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Luke Turner got the loss for the Pioneers. Turner pitched one-third of an inning, allowed three hits and two runs, struck out one and walked one.

Coach Jeff Brabant commented on his team’s performance, “You’re not going to win a lot of baseball games with 10 hits and 14 strikeouts in 14 innings. Our defense let us down a bit as well. We can’t be perfect and we get another opportunity tomorrow to see how well we get back up off the canvas.”

The Pioneers will have another doubleheader against Trinidad Saturday, March 17 starting at 1:00 pm.
