PIONEERS STAY PERFECT ON THE SEASON

Game 1

SIXTH INNING COMEBACK LEADS TO PIONEER VICTORY, 10-9

A big sixth inning for the Pioneers gave them the victory over Northwestern, 10-9. The Pioneers got down early, and in the fifth inning they found themselves in a 2-9 hole. The Pioneers scored eight runs in the sixth inning, to take the lead and eventually the victory.

Braxton Boyle led MCC in hitting, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Chase Linn got the win at the mound. Linn pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowed one hit and one run, struck out two, with no walks. Mitch Hughson was the starting pitcher for the Pioneers. He pitched four and one-third innings, allowed ten hits and eight runs, struck out five, and walked one. Logan DeCock came into the game in relief. DeCock got the last three outs to earn the save for the Pioneers.

Game 2

PIONEER BASEBALL PITCHES SHUT OUT

The Pioneers easily defeated Wheaton, 10-0. MCC had a big fourth inning, scoring six runs. Will Riley, Braxton Boyle, Nate Bloxham, and Steven Reinig all drove in runs in the inning. The Pioneers had six hits in the game. James Martin, Nate Bloxham, and Will Riley all had two hits on the day to lead MCC.

Three Pioneer pitchers combined to throw the shut out. Jonathan Ringer got the win on the pitcher’s mound for the Pioneers. Ringer pitched three innings, allowed two hits, zero runs, struck out five, and walked zero. Braxton Boyle and RJ Nevarez III came out of the bullpen in relief and to close out the game.

Coach Jeff Brabant was happy with how his team played today, “We never quit today and that says a lot about our character and our preparation. I’m proud of our guys and how they bounced back and took advantage of another opportunity. Two games left on Saturday and those are important to this team and our program.”

The Pioneers take on Itasca on Saturday, March 10 at 9:00 am and 11:00 am for their final games in Tucson, AZ.
