PIONEERS DROP A CLOSE ONE TO TRAPPERS

The Pioneers played the Trappers of Northwest College on Wednesday night in the Kailey Gymnasium. This game would determine the number 2 and 3 seeds in the conference. It was a defensive battle from the start. Both teams were playing physical defense, but not scoring many points. MCC took a 32-22 lead in to the locker room at half time. The Pioneers shooting went cold in the second half, allowing the Trappers to get back in the game and eventually take the lead. MCC fell to Northwest College 61-55. As it stands currently, the Pioneers will be the number 3 seed in the conference heading into the playoff game. Coach Nate Vogel commented on the loss, “We simply did not play well enough to win. When you a play a good team like Northwest, you need to execute and we didn’t do that on Wednesday night. We didn’t handle their pressure well. I was surprised by that because pressure hasn’t bothered us all year. That’s my fault as the coach, not the players. I need to have them better prepared.”

Patrycja Jaworska was the high scorer with 15 points. Bre Moea’i added 12 to the effort.

The Pioneers will be in action again on Saturday, February 17 as they head to Western Wyoming Community College to take on the Mustangs at 2:00 pm.
