Basketball (W)

The Pioneers traveled to Powell, WY to take on the Trappers of Northwest College. The Pioneers and Trappers both went into the game with a 15-4 record. It was a tight game from the beginning, but the Trappers had the lead most of the first half and went into halftime with a 4-point lead over the Pioneers. MCC game out strong in the second half and after 9 lead changes and 8 ties, the Pioneers started to pull away for good, beating the Trappers 68-55. This was a big win for the Pioneers, as they move to 16-4 on the season and 2-2 in the conference. Coach Nate Vogel commented, “This was our biggest win of the year. The great thing is we have yet to play our best basketball. We can do many things better. Of our 16 wins, this was the least amount of points we’ve scored. We are finding different ways to win in different kinds of games. One thing that doesn’t change is our defensive pressure. We forced 32 turnovers that we were able to convert into lay ups. We’re excited to get back in front of our fans on Thursday!”

Paula Rosello was the high scorer with 22 points, followed closely by Patrycja Jaworska with 19 and Bre Moea’I with 14 points.

The Pioneers will be home Thursday, January 25 against Western WY at 5:30 pm.
