Friday night, the Pioneers faced a tough challenge with the Casper Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds are consistently one of the top teams in the conference and they lived up to that reputation on Friday night. The Pioneers came out strong and it was a back and forth first half of play. MCC had just a 4-point deficit facing them at the break. It was all Thunderbirds in the second half. The Pioneers did not shoot the ball well in the second half and quickly lost the momentum that they had built in the first half. Casper was the better team this time, beating MCC 49-72. Coach Nate Vogel commented on the loss, “We relied on too many 3 point shots too quick in the shot clock. We didn’t come out with the same defensive urgency in the 2nd half. We’ll get back to work and be better when we play Sheridan on Wednesday.”

Patrycja Jaworska and Kyra Fleharty were the high scorers with 11 points apiece.

The Pioneers head to Sheridan to take on the Generals on Wednesday, January 17 at 5:30 pm.
