PIONEERS SPLIT THE WEEKEND IN WILLISTON

Friday, the Pioneers took on the North Dakota All-Stars at the Ramada Williston Teton Holiday Classic in Williston, ND. The Pioneers were without one of their high scorers, Perion Little, who was out with an eye injury suffered earlier in the week. Little is expected to return when the Pioneers are back in action in January. Despite Little’s absence, the Pioneers played very well against the former WSC players and were able to get back in the win column. MCC defeated the All-Stars 96-81. Coach Chase Tait commented, “It was just great to get back to winning again.”

Erie Olonade let the team in scoring with 23 points.

The Pioneers were looking to sweep the weekend with a win over Williston State College on Saturday. It was a close game and MCC took a lead into the half. Unfortunately, turnovers, poor shooting, and foul trouble allowed the Tetons to get back in the game and take the lead and eventually the win. Johnathan Tchuisse and Andrea LoBiondo both fouled out in the second half, leaving the Pioneers short- handed on the court. “Even after all of our troubles with poor shooting and fouls, we still had a chance to win the game in the end. We hung in there, but just couldn’t get over the hump,” Coach Chase Tait commented about the effort.

Erie Olonade and Andrea LoBiondo were the high scorers with 18 apiece.

The Pioneers won’t be in action again until January 5, 2018 when they take on Williston State College at home at 7:30pm in the Kailey Gymnasium.
