Two Sign with Men's Basketball

Miles Community College Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Chase Tait, has announced the signing of Evan Harrell of Cut Bank, Montana, and Colon Martinez of Houston, Texas, for the 2017-2018 season. Harrell is a 6-0 guard who played basketball for Cut Bank High School where he garnered 2nd Team All-Conference District 1B honors for the 2017 season. He was named the KSEN Athlete of the Week and helped lead Cut Bank High School’s boy’s basketball team to an appearance at the state tournament for the first time since 2006. This Cut Bank High School team was the 2017 Northern B Divisional Runner Up and 2017 District 1B Runner Up. During his senior season, Harrell averaged 15.5 points per game, 5 assists per game, 3.5 rebounds per game, and made 62 three-point shots throughout the season. Harrell says this about becoming a Pioneer, “I chose Miles Community College because I like the small campus atmosphere. I know I don’t have to worry about getting lost in the crowd of a huge class. Coach Tait is building something special and I’m just happy to be able to contribute anything I can. Go Pioneers!” Martinez, a 6-5 forward, will join the Pioneers after playing for Westside High School in Houston where he was named Honorable Mention All-District and was named All-Tournament Team HISD Tournament. In the 2017 season, his high school team advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Martinez averaged 13 points per game and 8 rebounds per game during his senior year. He has played on the Alief Clovers AAU Basketball Team and The Baller Academy, a non-profit youth mentoring organization that helps promising students achieve the rewards of a collegiate career. When asked why he chose MCC, Martinez says, “This gives me the ability to limit distractions and focus on every aspect of what I love to do, which is basketball.”
