Pioneers Close Regular Season with Win Over Little Big Horn

(Miles City, MT) The Miles Community College Pioneers played their regular season finale on Saturday night in Miles City. The Pioneers took on the Little Big Horn College Rams in the last game of the year before the Region IX tournament begins this weekend.

MCC (12-18, 4-10 conference) is coming off a tight loss to Casper College on Wednesday night. The Pioneers have battled injuries all season long, but have put together a run of great play in the month of February.

From start to finish, the Pioneers were in control on Saturday afternoon as they cruised to the 112-71 win over LBHC.

With an outstanding performance by the eight man squad of MCC, five of the eight scored in double digits including a high powered night from Sophomore Montenia Nelson who led the game with 30 points. Big man Adoum Mbang, who has come on as of late and been a force down low for MCC in the last five games, scored 23 and nabbed 10 rebounds to put up a double double. Uglijesa Portic would also go for a double double with 10 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Kameron Rauch finished with 14 points and freshman standout Perion Little finished with 15 points.

MCC had their best night of the season shooting on Saturday firing 80 total shots and hitting 46 of them for 57.5% from the field. A three point average of 41% (10-24) helped MCC dominate the perimeter and work the ball inside to Mbang for quality looks from inside the paint.

The Pioneers held a sizable height advantage and it showed in the rebound column. MCC went on to outrebound the Rams 56-24 allowing just 2 offensive rebounds all game, their lowest offensive rebounds allowed this season.

Next up for the ‘Neers:

The Pioneers will travel to Riverton, WY for the opening round of the Region IX tournament to face off with Central Wyoming at 1 PM. Both matchups this season against Central Wyoming this resulted in losses. The outstanding play in February have the Pioneers with high hopes as they look to advance to the quarterfinals next week in Gillette, WY.
