Pioneers Cruise Past Rams; Set to Host Region IX Opening Round

Box Score

(Miles City, MT) The Miles Community College Lady Pioneers took on the Little Big Horn Lady Rams in their final regular season game of the 2016-2017 basketball season.

MCC (16-14, 7-7 conference) came into Saturday’s contest on a three game skid after losses to Gillette College, Dawson Community College and Casper College over the course of the last two weeks. A win against LBHC would lock up the four seed for the Lady Pioneers and put them in line to host the first round of the Region IX playoffs starting this Friday.

The Lady Pioneers won the first two meetings between LBHC and MCC this season in blow out fashion, and with a playoff home game on the line, MCC had an added edge coming into Saturday’s game.

MCC scored on their first possession of the basketball game and never looked back, blowing out the LBHC Rams 95-39.

The Lady Pioneers led in almost every statistical category on Saturday. With a size and speed advantage, the Pioneers controlled the basketball winning the rebound battle 65-37 and forced 29 turnovers while turning the ball over just 16 times in the lopsided contest.

All 10 Lady Pioneers found their way into the scoring column and were led by sophomore Tia Torio and freshman Kristina Bajovic. Torio finished with 16 points, and Bajovic led the game in scoring with 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the floor.

Savannah Weidauer and Colleen Katoa both hit the double digit mark with 12 points each and Weidauer notched her 4th double double of the season as she went on to lead the game in rebounds with 13.

Next up for the Lady ‘Neers:

The Lady ‘Neers capped off their impressive season with the 95-39 win. The win locked them into the 4th seed in the North Sub Region and put them in line to host the Sheridan College Lady Generals on Friday, March 3rd. The Pioneers swept the regular season series with the Lady Generals. The home playoff game for the Lady ‘Neers is the first in head coach Liz Lewis’s tenure at MCC. Game time on Friday will be at 7 PM at Kailey Gymnasium in Miles City, MT.
