Pioneers Fall to Lady Bucs, Even the Season Series

Box Score

(Glendive, MT) The Miles Community College Lady Pioneer traveled to Glendive, MT on Monday night to take the Dawson Lady Bucs in a nonconference game.

Monday night’s game marks the second meeting between the Lady Pioneers and the Lady Bucs this season. MCC edged the Lady Bucs in the first meeting between the in-state rivals back in December when the two teams met up in Miles City.

MCC, who was grasping a five game win streak before a loss to Gillette College last Saturday, clinched their first home playoff game in over five years and the first in the tenure of head coach Liz Lewis.

The Lady Pioneers fought hard on Monday night, but it wasn’t enough to best the Lady Bucs, who went on to defend their home floor with the 68-59 victory.

Despite three MCC starters landing in double digits and the Lady Pioneers winning the rebound battle, turnovers turned out to be the big difference in the game as MCC committed 25 of them on Monday.

With MCC coming into the game shooting outside of 70% as a team from the free throw line, the team had their worst performance of the season from the line on Monday, shooting 11 for 25 (44%).

MCC outplayed the Bucs, but too many turnovers, and not taking advantage of trips to the charity stripe plagued the Lady Pioneers in the second half.

MCC’s Jennifer Burnham led the game with 23 points, her second 20+ point game out of the last three for the Lady Pioneers. Sophomore Savannah Weidauer finished with 13 points, and Kyra Fleharty finished with 10 points, six of which came from the free throw line.

Next up for the ‘Neers:

The Lady Pioneers take on Casper College on Wednesday night in their second to last game of the regular season. With MCC having clinched a home playoff game, the Lady Pioneers will look to build some momentum as the March 3rd playoff game approaches.
