Lady Pioneers Make It Three W's In a Row

(Sheridan, WY) The Miles Community College Lady Pioneers traveled to Sheridan College to the on the Lady Generals in a Region IX game on Saturday afternoon.

MCC won the first matchup against Sheridan College earlier in January, and are coming into Saturday’s game after a blowout win against Little Big Horn earlier on Wednesday.

A big game by Savannah Weidauer and Maria Delgado catapulted the Lady Pioneers over the Lady Generals 59-54 on Wednesday. Weidauer notched another double-double snagging 13 rebounds and scoring 18 points, while Delgado continued her hot streak on the court finishing with all 16 of MCC’s points off the bench. Tia Torio hit double digits as well with 12 points.

The Lady Pioneers put on a strong showing in each of the latter quarters in the first and second half outscoring the Generals 30-23 in the 2nd and 4th quarters combined.

MCC faltered in the 3rd turning the ball over 7 times in the quarter. The Lady Generals took the lead back and would head into the 4th quarter leading 40-39.

After some three point shooting from Delgado, who finished a perfect four of four from beyond the arc, MCC was back on top in the closing minutes of the game.

The Lady Pioneers continued their string of great free throw shooting down the stretch to clinch the game. MCC has shot 75% or better from the free throw line in the last 4 games and the 81% (9 for 11) continued that stretch.

Next up for the Lady ‘Neers:

The Lady Pioneers will dress out in pink as they take on Northwest College on Wednesday night as a part of Holy Rosary Healthcare’s “Pink It Out Night” at Kailey Gymnasium. The Pioneers are on a three game winning streak but lost their previous meeting with the Lady Trappers earlier in January. The Pioneers can make a jump in the Region IX standings with a win on Wednesday. With only five conference games left, MCC is still in the running to host a Sub Region playoff game.
