Lady Pioneers Fall in Powell, WY

Box Score

(Powell, WY) The Miles Community College Lady Pioneers hit the road for Powell, WY on Saturday to take on the Northwest College Lady Trappers.

The Lady Pioneers (11-8, 2-2) come into Saturday’s contest off a win last Wednesday against Sheridan College. The Lady Trappers, (11-9, 2-2) are coming off a win against Little Big Horn College after dropping their first two conference games of the season.

Miles Community College jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter. Some good shooting from the perimeter, and even better ball movement opened up the low post for Savannah Weidauer and Kyra Fleharty early on. The two posts combined for eight first quarter points and played a big role in the five point lead heading into the second quarter.

Northwest College took it to another gear in the second quarter. Taking advantage of 13 Miles Community College turnovers, the Lady Trappers went on to outscore the Lady Pioneers 35-2. MCC couldn’t get a shot to fall and the NWC couldn’t miss. MCC shot just 10% in the second quarter while the Lady Trappers fired a blistering 50%, including six of nine from behind the arc.

The Lady Pioneers put together two separate runs in the 3rd and 4th quarter, but the 28 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome. The Lady Trappers cruised to a 76-49 victory.

NWC’s Kira Marlow and Charri McArthur led the game in scoring with 15 points apiece. MCC’s Tia Torio topped the scoring column for the Lady Pioneers with nine points.

Next up for the Lady ‘Neers:

After dropping to 2-2 in Region IX play, the Lady Pioneers will take on the Gillette College Pronghorns on Wednesday night in Miles City. MCC is sitting in the middle of the pack in the conference but a win on Wednesday would put them within striking distance of the top teams in the conference.

All MCC home games will be streamed live to our athletics Facebook page.
