Lady Pioneers fall to Sheridan

(Miles City, MT) The Lady Pioneers hosted the Sheridan College Lady Generals, on Saturday Feb. 6th. This was the second and final conference meeting between the two teams. In their last meeting the Lady P’s fell to Sheridan 78-57 and they were looking to get even with them at home. The Lady P’s had some momentum going into this game as they had just come off of a 40+ point win.

In the 1st quarter, the Lady Pioneers got off to a good start against the Lady Generals, as they traded baskets in the first 5 minutes and found themselves trailing by 2 points with 4:39 left in the quarter. In the final 4 minutes of the quarter the Pioneers allowed Sheridan to go on a 10-4 run, as the score was 21-13 at the end of the 1st. The Lady P’s started the second quarter on a 7-4 run. The Pioneers continued to battle with the Generals, however they couldn’t seem to gain much ground. The score going into the half was 37-30, as the Lady Pioneers outscored the Generals 17-16 in the second quarter. The 3rd quarter was rough for MCC, as they didn’t get their 1st points until the 6:14 mark, and by that time they had given up 9-2 run to the Lady Generals. The Pioneers drought continued, as another 2 minutes passed before they added to their score. The Lady P’s were outscored in the 3rd quarter 27-9, and the score going into the 4th quarter was 64-39. In the 4th quarter MCC had a big deficit to try to overcome, and with 4:37 left in the game the Pioneers were trailing 77-53. The Pioneers couldn’t seem to get enough going in the second half to get back into the game. The final score of the game was 85-57. The Lady P’s shot 25.6% from the field, and 26.1% from 3-pt. range. The Pioneers outrebounded the Lady Generals 58-35, had more 2nd chance points 20-4, and scored more points in the paint 24-18.

The Lady P’s had 3 players score in the double-digit mark. Sophomore Guard, Kayla Torio, led the team with a double-double. Torio, scored 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from 3-pt. range, and she grabbed 10 rebounds. Theresa Mac-Dangosu, added on another double-double for MCC. Mac-Dangosu, put up 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and grabbed 12 boards. Freshman Savannah Weidauer, added 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Weidauer, also grabbed 9 rebounds for the Lady P’s.

The Lady Pioneers now sit at (10-15) on the season, and (3-7) in conference play. Miles is scheduled to play against Northwest College, in Powell, WY, on Wednesday Feb. 10th.
