Lady P's fall to Casper

(Gillette, WY) On Wednesday, Jan. 20th, the Pioneers traveled to Gillette, to battle against the Lady Pronghorns of Gillette College. This was the first of two meetings between MCC and GC. The Lady P’s were coming off a hard fought win against NWC, so they had some confidence going in this game.

The Lady P’s had a strong first half, and went into the half with a 2 point lead, and a score of 28-26. MCC held the Lady Pronghorns to one of their lowest scoring halves of the season. Both teams struggled scoring in the first half. In the second half the Pioneers continued to struggle scoring, as the Lady P’s only scored 23 points. The Final score of the game was 61-51 with the Lady P’s on the losing end. The Lady Pioneers had better shooting percentages than the Lady Pronghorns; 34.6% to 32.9% from the Field, 18.8% to 16.7% from 3-pt range, and 75% to 60% from the charity stripe. However the Lady P’s allowed Gillette more shot attempts, after giving the ball up 37 times. The Lady P’s also outrebounded the Pronghorns (52-34).

The Leading scorers for the Pioneers were Theresa Mac-Dangosu and Chelsey Borden. Mac-Dangosu had a double-double, as she scored 14 points and grabbed a season high 17 rebounds for the Lady P’s. Borden came off of the bench and scored 12 points, and she also had 2 steals.

(Miles City, MT) On Saturday, the Lady P’s hosted the Women of Casper College. The Pioneers had a tough game ahead of them with the Lady Thunderbirds. CC is tied for 1st place in conference with Gillette. This is the first of the two meetings between MCC and CC.

The 1st quarter was the worst for the Lady Pioneers, as they were outscored 29-10. However, the 2nd quarter was a much different story for the Lady P’s, as they started the quarter on a 12-5 run. They had cut the lead to 12 in the second quarter, but Casper kept chipping away and the score at the half was 46-30. The 3rd quarter was another good one for the Pioneers, as they nearly cut the lead in half at the 5:53 mark the Lady P’s only trailed 50-41. In the next 4 minutes the Lady P’s allowed CC to go on a 12-4 run. Going into the 4th quarter the score was 64-51, and they Pioneers continued to battle their way back into the game, after allowing the Thunderbirds to get a big lead early in the game. Despite all the battling the Lady P’s did, the closest they made the game in the 4th quarter was a 12 point deficit. The final score in the game was 83-69, with the Lady P’s falling to Casper College. After the 1st quarter the Lady P’s outscored the Thunderbirds in the next 3 quarters (59-54). The Pioneers shot 39.3% from the field, and they shot 25% from behind the arch. The Lady P’s also scored 54 points off of the bench.

The Pioneers had 3 players who scored in double digit figures; Savannah Weidauer, Maria Delgado, and Chelsey Borden. Weidauer led the Lady P’s with a double-double, as she scored 22 points, and grabbed 11 boards. Delgado put up 16 points, on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arch. Borden added 12 points for MCC, as she reached the charity stripe 11 times.

The Lady P’s are now (9-12) overall, and (2-4) in conference. The Pioneers have a road trip this week to play against Western Wyoming and Central Wyoming.
