Lady P's edge Dawson

(Miles City, MT) The Pioneers hosted the Dawson Community College Buccaneers for their first meeting of the season, on Tuesday night. The Lady Pioneers played in the first of two games at the Kailey Gymnasium. The Lady P’s were coming off of two losses the weekend before and were looking to end the skid against DCC. The Lady Pioneers haven’t lost to DCC since February 22, 2014. The 1st quarter of the game was a battle, as there were 9 lead changes, with Miles leading at the end of the first. The Pioneers let DCC take the lead after they committed 9 turnovers in the second quarter, and the score at the half was 36-34 with MCC trailing. The 3rd quarter was hard fought between the Pioneers and the Buccaneers, which was also the closest scoring quarter between the two teams. Going into the 4th quarter it was a one point game with MCC trailing. The Lady P’s took the lead back halfway through the final quarter at the 5:03 mark, on score from Tia Torio. With 16 seconds left in the game, the Lady P’s were ahead 59-57, after a made free throw by Chelsea Borden. DCC inbounded the ball at half court, as Makiya Givens trapped Rachael Ault in the corner and came away with a steal. Borden was then fouled again, which meant another trip to the charity stripe for MCC. With a 61-57 lead for the Lady P’s, there were 6 seconds left on the clock for DCC to try and make a miracle happen. However, Dawson’s Alexis Clinginsmith was called for a travel, and the Pioneers were fouled again, as Borden mad 1-of-2, and the Lady Pioneers come away with a hard fought win. The final was 62-57.
