Lady Pioneers stomp Lake Region Alumni

(Devils Lake, ND) The Lady Pioneers continued their play in the Sleep Inn Classic on Sunday morning against the Alumni of Lake Region State College. Miles Community College looked to split on the weekend and come back on a good note.

The Pioneers trailed early in the first quarter, which lasted about half way through the first quarter, but they turned it on and took the lead. The score at half time was 46-31 in the Pioneers favor. The third quarter was the closet in scoring between MCC and the Royals Alumni, but MCC still had a double digit lead. The final score was 96-71 as the Lady P’s came away victorious. Miles outdueled the LRSC Alumni in most of the major categories such as, rebounds (46-26), bench points (22-15), points off turnovers (28-18), assists (27-23), and 2nd chance points (13-6). This was a very well rounded game for the Lady Pioneers.

MCC had 6 girls who scored in double digit figures on the night; Shelby Holmes (21), Kayla Torio (14), Tia Torio (11), Makiya Givens (11), Theresa Mac-Dangosu (17), and Savannah Weidauer (15). Holmes had her highest scoring night of the season with 21 points on 5-of-9 shooting from behind the arc, and she also snagged 9 boards, and dished 4 assists. K. Torio put up 14 of her own and she also had her second double-double of the season on top of 8 assists. T. Torio scored 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field. Givens also scored 11 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. Mac-Dangosu dropped 17 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and also snagged 4 steals. Weidauer had her highest scoring night of the season with 15 on 7-of-8 shooting for the Lady P’s.

The Lady Pioneers split on the weekend and will host Williston State College next Saturday, November 21st.
