Lady Pioneers sweep weekend with wins over Central Wyoming and Northwest College

  (Miles City, MT) The Lady Pioneers of Miles Community College improved to 3-1 in Region IX and 12-7 overall with impressive wins coming against Central Wyoming College and Northwest College over the weekend. 

On Friday evening, MCC scored a 66-49 win over CWU and outlasted a pesky Northwest team Saturday afternoon, 76-71.

Jaycin Tini led all scorers with 21 points combined with three Pioneer teammates notching double figure scoring efforts on their way to the conference win. In addition, Tini snagged 8 rebounds and dished out 4 assists to go along with 2 steals. Petra Lumpert added 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. 

Shelby Weeks added 10 points and 5 rebounds while Shelby Holmes chipped in 14 points on 4-5 shooting from three point range. 

MCC finished the contest with a slight edge in rebounds (38-33) and dished out 15 assists in the win. Miles finished the game shooting 41% from the field, 42% from long range, and outscored CWU 17-13 with bench production.

MCC held off a late comeback from the Trappers on their way to the conference win. MCC held a comfortable 37-24 advantage at intermission, eventually building their lead to 21 with 10:37 left in the 2nd half. However, with 1:37 remaining and MCC holding onto a 74-57 lead, the Trappers made four 3 point baskets to cut the lead 75-71 with 13 seconds to go but it wasn't enough as Jaycin Tini would knock down a crucial free throw to extend the lead to 5 for the victory. 

Once again, Tini led all scorers with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She converted on 7-8 free throws and connected on 3-7 from three point range. Lumpert and Holmes each poured in 11 points, while Weeks chipped in 10 points. Lumpert dished out 5 assists, while Holmes and Weeks each pulled down 5 boards. 

With the win, MCC improved to 12-7 overall and 3-1 in Region IX. MCC heads to Little Big Horn College for a match up at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, January 20th.
